One of the central themes in Signals in the Lemon Grove is the difference between love and obsession. While both can begin with powerful emotions, they lead to very different destinations. A single red rose serves as a quiet symbol of both throughout the story. It reminds us that what appears beautiful on the surface can represent either selfless devotion or the desire to possess. In the end, the difference isn't found in the flower, but in the heart of the person holding it.
